Mega Big Canvas - Client: Mercedes Commercial
When Mercedes Commercial asked us to produce a canvas that was 3 metres high x 2 metres wide we were left wondering how to produce such a large wrap at that size! How would we source a suitable stretcher frame? Normally we would produce canvas’ between A4 and A0 size so this request was a little out of our comfort zone.
However after giving it some thought we agreed on the best way forward. Firstly we commissioned a 3m x 2m aluminium frame to be made that would stand off the wall by 60mm. Horizontal support bars were attached to the back. Aluminium was ideal for this project as it won’t bow (like a wooden frame) and its lightweight. The frame fixed together with allen key connections. Next we concealed wood into the aluminium channelling so that the Canvas print could be stapled to the reverse.
Once the frame was fully constructed we were ready to wrap the impressive looking print around the frame. First we wrapped a blank white canvas around. This was to help prevent any show through that may appear. Finally the canvas print was tensioned and fixed around the frame.
Del Rogers from Mercedes Commercial was extremely impressed, “We’ve just spent millions of pounds on our new premises at Tankersley, Sheffield and we needed something that would fit the part. The quality of the canvas was second to none and the service was fantastic… all completed in 5 working days”
